Dinoflagellates of the genus Alexandrium are a major cause of harmful algal blooms (HABs) that have increasingly disrupted coastal ecosystems for the last several decades. Microalgae from the genus Alexandrium are known to produce paralytic shellfish toxins (PST) but also bioactive extracellular compounds (BEC) that can display cytotoxic, allelopathic, ichtyotoxic or haemolytic effects upon marine organisms. The impact of diets upon the fatty acid composition of haemocyte polar lipids and consequently upon immune parameters has been tested in the oyster Crassostrea gigas and the clam Ruditapes philippinarum. Effect of shear velocity and flow regimes on scallop post-larval detachment feed on two different diets ArchiMer

Through biological flume experiments, we studied the effect of shear velocity and attachment period on the percent detachment of Pecten maximus post-larvae of different sizes reared on two experimental diets. The first diet, (Pavlova lutheri, Isochrysis galbana, Chaetoceros calcitrans), which served as a reference diet (PTC), is commonly used in bivalve hatcheries; the second is the PTC diet with the addition of Rhodomonas salina (PTCR). Lipid requirements of the scallop Pecten maximus (L.) during larval and post-larval development in relation to addition of Rhodomonas sauna in diet ArchiMer

The main objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of the addition of Rhodomonas salina in the diet of Pecten maximus on growth, survival and metamorphosis success in relation to biochemical content. Food quality is an essential factor in the success of larval, post-larval and juvenile development. A diet rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids present an advantage for growth, survival and metamorphosis success. Observations on larval development and settlement of Patinofecten yessoensis in hatcheries ArchiMer

The influence of density on Patinopecten yessoensis larval development was studied during production of an F2 generation. Setting behaviour of P. yessoensis on PVC removable spat collectors, previously tested with Pecten maximus, was determined. Poor larval growth of P. yessoensis was observed at a larval density of 7 ·ml·1 and post larval settlement occurred mainly on the bottom of the baskets, as has been observed with the king scallop, P. maximus. The PVC collector is not suitable for either species of scallop.
